It’s Not Over

I’m a big believer that there is early morning church service on Sunday’s so that Redskins fans can spend the rest of their day praying for a Hail Mary! And after an 0-2 start, at home, there is about to be a Baptism by fire in Washington!

It was a gloomy Monday in Washington and for Washington Redskins fans. Is our season over? Why is Kirk Cousins scared of the red zone? Why can’t the defense stop 3rd. downs? There were years where it felt like the offence couldn’t move the ball past the 50-yard line. This year, we’ve had 17 passes in the red zone and only completed five passes (two of those were red zone picks).

Kirk Cousins has three interceptions in two games this season. He had three total interceptions in the last ten games for 2015. Cousins missed open receivers over and over, and over against Dallas. His throwing was off. Too short to Garcon, over thrown to Crowder and Jackson, and a wide right throw to Garson in the end zone. He was just off all day. His decision-making is off, his accuracy is off, his confidence is off, everything is just off.

The O-Line struggled against an unimpressive Dallas defense. They got to Cousins nine times! If the O-Line can’t protect the QB and if he continues to make the type of get the ball and just throw passes that miss receivers, then this is going to be a long season.

Do we even have a running game? When Alfred Morris ran into the end zone for the game-winning touchdown it twisted the knife in deeper. I hated seeing Morris leave Washington and I really hate that we have to face him twice a year.

We quickly have gone from first to worst in the NFC east. With an 0-2 start, the Redskins have a 10% chance of making the playoffs. If you believe in prayer, pray!

“I can’t put my finger on them right now,” Gruden said when asked about the regression of a team that won the NFC East title last year. “It’s a combination of a lot of things. We have to address them quick. I’m sure you guys will know the areas more than I will in the paper, but we will address everything that we think needs to be addressed. And that’s quite a lot.” (The Washington Post)

And by quick, Coach Gruden means by Sunday when the team faces the Giants on the road. Gruden hasn’t been able to beat the G-MEN at MetLife stadium in his three years in Washington. I love that Gruden still has his sense of humor, but something has got to change. There is too much talent on this team for the past two weeks to be an indication of the rest of the season.

So on Sunday we pray that the defense can stop 3rd downs, Cousins can hit is targets and we find a running game. It’s been a rough start, but the areas of improvement are all fixable. The last time the Redskins started 0-2 at home, they finished the season 10-6 in 1989. With the media and the NFL already giving up on the Redskins this year, we bow our heads and pray, Lord, we need a revival!
