Twas The Night Before Christmas

Christmas has come early in Washington. The Redskins are having a hell of a December and leading the NFC East and one win away from hosting a play off game. But that’s not all the fan-base is thankful for. The RG3 drama and the sensitive feeling of those supposedly offended by the name “Redskins” both have been pretty silent for the 7-7 Redskins.

The once, face of the franchise Griffin hasn’t been active since October 18th against the Jets. He’s just another guy on the sideline with a clipboard and headphones. The 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year caused a circus for the last three years and now there is peace on earth with the forgotten QB.

I will say that I respect the way Griffin and the current QB; Kirk Cousins have both handled the awkward situation in the locker room. Griffin’s career in football may not be over, but his career as a Redskin will be over when the season ends. Cousins has been the starter going 5-3 in the last eight games while throwing 16 TD’s and only three interceptions. It’s taken some patience for Cousins to get comfortable, but it’s paved the path for the Redskins to play in the post season; a game the fan base has only experienced twice since 2007.

A Christmas bonus may come a little late for Cousins. Cousins is a free agent at the end of the season but he should be given a franchise tag or a long term deal to keep him in Washington. This would mean an estimated $18.5 million dollar pay raise from Cousins current $660,000 salary.

There is still important football left to play for the Redskins. Beating the Eagles is ALWAYS a must. But beating them in Philly, the day after Christmas to clinch the division and a home playoff game would be the best Christmas present Redskin’s nation could ask for.

So tonight when you leave beer and wine for Santa, remember to read my version of the real Twas The Night Before Christmas.

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through football land
Not a Giant was standing, not even a Cowboy had a gun in hand.
The Eagles were shaking in Philadelphia with scare
Waiting the return of DeSean Jackson to soon to be there.

Redskin’s Nation was ready and snug in their beds,
While visions of playoffs danced in their heads.
And the fridges were stocked with Holiday “spirit”
The Redskins winning the East was so loud, you could hear it.

When out on TV there arose such a clatter,
Just kidding RG3 is benched, nothing is the matter.
Away down the draft we picked the right gem,
Three years later Kirk Cousins was him!

The moon was full on the warm holiday night
Giving the Redskins the chance to fight.
When what to the NFL surprise
The Washington Redskins are on rise.

Lead by a coach, that until last year no one really knew him
I knew the moment I watched Hardknocks, I’d love Coach Gruden.
Some media loser called Coach fat,
Well I wasn’t down with that.

Now Cousins, now Reed, now Morris, and Jacks(i)n
On Baker, On Hall, Kerrigan now Blitz him!
From least to number one in the east, that’s how we ball
Now watch us win, watch us win it all.

The beer is cold and plays are set
The Redskins are going to win, take that bet!
So break out all your burgundy and gold,
Singing Hail To The Redskins never gets old.
