The Tennessee Volunteers have won the College World Series and are National Champions!

It all came down to a game three, winner take all on one of the hottest days ever in Omaha, Nebraska. The Tennessee Vols beat Texas A&M 6-5 to win their first baseball National Championship in program history! The 25-year curse of the number one overall seed not being able to win the College World Series since 1999 is over! The number one team in college baseball is finally the number one team in college baseball.

My twin brother told me before the CWS started that Tennessee could lose a game, but no team was going to beat Tennessee twice. Going into Monday’s night’s game I kept telling myself, Texas A&M will not beat them twice. And then, Christian Moore’s (C-Mo) leadoff home run set the tone, and in that moment, I knew the Vols were going to win it all!

Tony Vitello

Some people say Coach Tony Vitello’s fiery attitude rubs them the wrong way, but I say Coach Vitello can rub me anyway he wants to. I LOVE TONY! He’s more than just being the hottest man you dream about. Tony Vitello is literally a dream come true for the University of Tennessee. Before hiring Tony Vitello, Tennessee Baseball went 13 years without even making a NCAA Tournament. No one cared about baseball or showed up to games.

Since Tony arrived in Knoxville seven years ago, the Vols have been to five-straight NCAA Tournaments (would be more but lost the 2020 Covid year), three CWS appearances in the last four years, invested over $100M in stadium upgrades to Lindsey Nelson Stadium, and have sold out games with record attendance.

Champions

This Tennessee team bleeds Champions and one of the best college baseball teams of all time. Tennessee’s 60-13 season record is the first 60-win season since the regular season was capped at 56 games in 1992. The last time a team won 60 games a season was Wichita State in 1989 (who played an 84-game season). Add to their list of championships:
• SEC Regular Season Champions
• SEC Conference Tournament Champions
• Knoxville Regional winners
• Knoxville Super Regional winners
• 2nd in home run of all time
• 3rd best winning percentage ever for a champion
• 2024 College Baseball National Champions!

Game Changers

This entire roster is full of guys that are game changers. Here are a just a few studs who changed the history at Tennessee forever. Dylan Dreiling hit a home run in every game of the championship series. Mr. Clutch also won the Most Outstanding Player award.

Zander Sechrist is a different breed. An unconventional LHP with his pitching style but put your money on Zander and count your wins. His last six starts ended like this: Won the SEC Regular Season, sent UT to the SEC Championship, sent UT to the Supers, sent UT to the CWS, sent UT to the CWS Finals, Won the CWS National Championship! That’s some really good stuff to have on the mound.

Hunter Ensley’s slide into home was a game changer. That Houdini move will forever be legendary, not just for UT but the greatest slide in CWS history.

I mean, how, HOW, did he dodge to miss the tag at home plate to be called safe? It was art, athleticism, awareness, and bleeping amazing! And that helmet throw at the end was simply the pure emotions of a kid that gives his all to Tennessee.

Congratulations to Tony Vitello and the 2024 CWS National Champions. This is only the beginning of a baseball dynasty in Knoxville, Tennessee.
