It’s all happening in the wide world of sports for my teams. If you would have told me at the beginning of September that the Dodgers would be going back to the World Series, the Tennessee Vols would beat Alabama in football- again, and the Washington Commanders would start the season 5-2, I would have laughed. But here we are and it’s all happening!
Dodgers
For the fourth time in eight years, the Los Angeles Dodgers are headed back to the World Series! The Dodgers beat the Mets in six games of the seven-game National League Championship Series (NLCS) to clinch the National League Pennant. They also set a major league record for scoring 46 runs in a post-season series.
When you have the best roster and consistently have one of the highest payrolls in MLB, you are expected to win. World Series
Finally, the biggest stars in MLB will go head to head in a seven-game series between two historic franchises with the World Series title on the line. This is the first World Series matchup where two 50-home run hitters will square off; Ohtani vs. Judge. You’ve also got Betts vs. Soto and Freeman vs. Stanton. This is a dream matchup of MVP vs MVP. Get your popcorn ready, it’s happening!
This will be the 22nd World Series appearance for the Dodgers; the most in National League history. This is also the 12th time the Dodgers will face the Yankees in the World Series. The match up leads the MLB in World Series meetings. The last time the Yankees and the Dodgers met in the WS was in 1981 and the Yankees have won eight out of the eleven WS matchups against the Dodgers.
Have you ever met a Yankee fan who hasn’t told you about their 27 World Series Championships out of 40 World Series appearances? (Insert eyeroll.) The Yankees have the most championships in MLB. (The Cardinals are second with 11 WSC.) The Dodgers have won seven World Series Championships out of 21 appearances and are in 6th overall for the most WSC. 2009 was the last time the Yankees appeared and won the WS. While the Dodgers lost back-to-back WS in 2017 and 2018. They won the 2020 WS! My twin and I were lucky enough to watch them win game three in person.
Game one in LA starts at 8:08 PM EST on Friday October 25th on FOX. FOUR MORE WINS!!! LET’S GO DODGERS!
Tennessee
The Tennessee Volunteers beat Alabama 17-24 for the second time in three years. This means that Tennessee’s head coach, Josh Heupel, is now 2-0 against Alabama in Neyland stadium.
Neyland stadium rattled the Tide offense the entire game. The Tennessee defense was elite. However, the Tide offense was not the Alabama product we are accustomed to seeing. They failed under pressure to produce a first down in their last four possessions with their game on the line. But the beauty of the game was from Tennessee DB, Will Brooks. (Brooks played high school football an hour away from the University of Alabama. Because the Tide never offered him a scholarship, he walked on at Tennessee.) The Vols were winning 17-24 with 1:30 left in the game. Bama’s QB, Jalen Milroe, threw his first pass attempt to try to tie the game. The pass was intercepted by Will Brooks! Game over. (Watch the play in Spanish, it’s pretty dope!)

Smoke em if ya got em- is the Alabama-Tennessee rivalry tradition where the winner smokes a victory cigar. While I did not light one up, I know fans who will burn one for all of us.
Commanders
What is going on in Washington? The Commanders are 5-2, first in the NFC East, and second in the NFC. Who is this team? It’s been years, more like decades, since this franchise has been this exciting to watch. Did you have the Commanders leading the NFL in scoring (218 points) on your bingo card? No one saw this happening! The Commanders have scored 30+ points four times through seven games. In their last two seasons combined, they only had four games with 30+ points. Finally, we have an offense that can move the ball and find the end zone!
First round QB pick, Jayden Daniels, suffered a rib injury during the 7-40 blowout over the Panthers. He is now listed week to week. But the initial tests shows no fractures on Daniels ribs. There is no need to panic. The fans are back in the stadium and future looks bright. The Commanders will play the Bears on Sunday at 4:25PM EST on CBS.
Now, if my Chanticleers can get out of their two-game losing streak, I will need to log back in to my Draftkings account and make some money.
