It’s been hard to be a fan of the University of Tennessee football over the last five seasons. VOL fans never saw the day when their team would be playing Kentucky for the battle of basement in the SEC East in 2012. Finishing 1-7 in the SEC, the same year that Vanderbilt finished 5-3 in the SEC is simply unacceptable for the once feared “Power T” program.
In those past five seasons the Vols were coached by three different head coaches who together earned a 28-34 record and even more embarrassing with a 12-28 stats in the SEC. Maybe this works in the ACC, but not in the mecca of college football, not in the South Eastern Conference. The University of Tennessee had officially hit rock bottom.
It’s shocking to have witnessed this debacle for the past five seasons from a program that stands 11th overall in all-time wins and second in the SEC for all-time wins.
On December 7th 2012, Butch Jones was announced as the new head football coach at the University of Tennessee.
From day one, Coach Jones has laid the foundation brick, by brick. He has promised us winners on and off the field. He has welcomed the former VOL greats back anytime, and he promised to own recruiting. He didn’t promise the change over night, or even over one season, but inch-by-inch Coach Jones promised to give his all for the University of Tennessee.
Former players have come back to support their alumni and recruiting for the 2014 season is on par to be the number one recruiting class in college football. It’s an exciting time for Tennessee Football. We don’t plan to win a National Championship this year, but the future looks as bright as the color orange.
Butch Please, Rise to the Top, and BUTCH t-shirts were an overnight success. The fans have bought in and we are ready for the Jones era to begin.
Coach Jones will make his coaching debut as a VOL on Saturday against Austin Peay. The Vols are a 50-point favorite and they are going for UT’s 800th gridiron win.
Welcome to Knoxville, Coach Jones.
GO VOLS!
