Team USA dominated the 2024 Paris Olympics for the 8th straight Summer Olympics with 126 overall all medals. China came in second with 91 overall medals. Forty of those medals were gold (tied with China) for the most golds. Women made up 65% of team USA medals by bringing home 26 out of the 40 U.S. gold medals across individual and team events. Talk about girl power!
Track and field
I have to shout out track and field. Huge congratulations to Coastal Carolina University’s Melissa Jefferson for winning bronze in the 100m and gold in the 4x100m relay with Gabby Thomas, Sha’Carri Richardson, and Twanisha Terry. Teal Nation is so proud to call you a Chanticleer.
The women’s 4X400m relay with Gabby Thomas, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Alexis Holmes, and Shamier Little won the 8th consecutive gold medal in 4x400m and put them within 0.1 seconds of the world record that has held for 36 years. Gabby Thomas is the 5th woman to win three gold medals in the same Olympic Games in track and field since Allyson Felix in 2012. It’s not fair how these women were blessed with so much speed, beauty, and brains. Seriously, God Blessed America!
Jordan Chiles
USA Olympic gymnast, Jordan Chiles is being asked to give back HER bronze medal from the individual floor final and I am crushed for her. Talk about a backflip off the mat. This is absurd!
Why is Jordan being asked to give HER bronze medal back? After her floor routine score was posted, Jordan was in 5th place. Her coaches appealed to the judges that her starting score (difficulty level) was not high enough because it was missing a skill. The judges then added the skill points to her starting score which made Jordan move from 5th place to 3rd place. The medals were handed out, the podium selfies were taken, Jordan flew back home, and a week passed.
Then, the Romanian gymnastics team challenged the TIMING of when the score was appealed to the judges to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The Romanian’s said it took Chiles’ coach 64 seconds after the score was posted to appeal. The rule is you have 60 seconds to appeal a score. On Sunday, the International Olympic Committee said the appeal should not have been allowed due to being FOUR seconds late.
Romania
The Romanians, who haven’t been relevant in gymnastics for decades, to appeal over a four second rule to try to claim a medal. In other words, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BETTER GYMNAST. JORDAN CHILES EARNED THE BRONZE MEDAL WITH HER SCORE NOT ROMANIAN, ANA BARBOSU!
However, the decision from IOC is saying that Jordan must return HER bronze medal to them and they will reallocate it to Ana Barbosu. Are you bleeeeping kidding me? In no world would I ever give back the medal I earned and I pray to the sports gods that Jordan does not give HER medal back either. What competitive athlete would want a medal that they did not earn? Ana, loved your teal leotard, but you have to earn medals. Basically, if Ana really ends up stealing Jordan’s medal, she should be ashamed of herself and of her country.
USA Gymnastics officials said an arbitration panel won’t reconsider a decision asking Jordan to return HER bronze medal. USA Gymnastics says they have video evidence that proves that they filed the appeal of Jordan’s score 13 seconds BEFORE the deadline, NOT four seconds after the deadline as Romania claims.
Facts:
Jordan’s true score EARNED HER the bronze medal.
In this situation, Jordan did not cheat or break any rule on or off the mat.
The judges made the error for failing to account for a skill and the judge’s error is the cause of the original lower starting score.
The judges allowed the appeal to be filed within whatever the timeframe was.
This is a judge’s problem, NOT a Jordan problem! For Romania to even follow through with all of this is pure loser mentality. The fact is Jordan beat Ana hands down. Romania hasn’t been relevant in the world of gymnastics in decades. Sorry, not sorry, it’s just the facts.
USA Gymnastics said “we are deeply disappointed by the notification and will continue to pursue every possible avenue and appeal process, including to the Swiss Federal Tribunal, to ensure the just scoring, placement and medal award for Jordan.” The appeal could go to Switzerland’s highest court, the Swiss Tribunal, or the European Court of Human Rights. Facts: this isn’t over!
