I’m not sure what Coach Gruden says in the locker room at halftime, but I’d love to be a fly on those walls. Whatever way he is communicating his F-bombs, it’s working in FedEx.
On Sunday, the Redskins gave the New Orleans Saints some capital punishment with a 14-47 victory. The last time the Redskins scored more than 47 points was in October 2005 against the 49er’s. The Redskins shutout the Saints in the second half of the game while the offense put another twenty points on the board.
It was like I was witnessing the glory days of the Washington Redskins that my dad tells me stories about. The Redskins played their best on both offense and defense and gave the home crowd a lot to cheer about. This victory and the rest of NFC east losing put the Redskins a half game out of leading the division.
Kirk Cousins continues to grow up before our eyes. He completed 20 of 25 passes for 324 yards (a season high) with four touchdown passes (a career high), zero turnovers and a perfect passer rating of 158.3. Cousins looked comfortable and didn’t force plays. It was no surprise he was given the game ball.
Kirk Cousins was given the game ball, but he quickly gave the ball to his dad. This was the first game his dad has been able to attend due to undergoing cancer treatments this summer.
After Cousins had the game of his career, Gruden put backup QB Colt McCoy in the game late in the second half. Cousins held his game ball under his arm as he stood on the sidelines. He kept the ball with him as he walked on the field at the end of the game to greet other players, including Saints QB Drew Brees, and then Cousins headed straight to the stands to give the game ball to his father.
“To have him back was exciting, and then to have a game like that was a lot of fun, giving him the game ball,” Cousins told Comcast SportsNet’s Mitch Tischler. “And he just said, ‘Thank you. Thanks for a great day.’ It put a smile on his face. And it was special for our family, and we’ll enjoy it tonight.”
Well Kirk, thank you, we the fans enjoyed the game too!
And to add to Sunday excitement, Pierre Garcon and Matt Jones found $15 on the ground in the huddle. Still trying to figure out how that happened, but I’m sure they also said “Thank You”.
