It was Homecoming on Sunday at FedEx field. It started with cheers as the Redskins greats were introduced and the crowed erupted when the great, #9 Sonny Jurgensen, was introduced. With a cigar in his mouth, he still knows how to own the crowd.
Funny how quick the mood can change for the life of a Redskin fan. At the end of the first quarter the Redskins were down 10-0 and didn’t have a first down. The booo’s were loud.
By halftime it was 24-7. The 72 thousand fans were all Booooing. And when I say booing, I mean BOOOOOOING! At home, on Homecoming and there wasn’t a Shanahan involved… Ouch!
To be a fly on the wall in the Redskins locker room during halftime… The Coach Gruden I know started and ended that speech with an F bomb and every adjective and noun was replaced by that four-letter word. I hope he threw something too, just to really let it all out. Whatever he said, worked. Code Red was in full effect in the second half.
The Redskins scored 21 unanswered, holy shit is this really happening, points.
Cornerback Bashaud Breeland made what could arguably be biggest the play of the game by sprinting from the opposite end of the field to knock Buccaneers running back Doug Martin out of bounds at the Washington 5 yard line with five minutes left on the game clock. That stop kept Tampa Bay from going up by ten. And then the Redskins defense gave handed out some Capital punishment and held the Bucks to a field goal. Down six points with 2:24 left on the game clock FedEx was rocking like old RFK stadium as the ball was moved down the field. With 24 seconds left on the clock, Kirk Cousins threw the game winning pass to Jordan Reed and Hopkins kick was gooooood to give the Redskins a 31-30 lead and the largest comeback in franchise history.
Kirk Cousins was not only fired up on the field, but after the game we saw a side of the QB that made Redskins Nation proud to call him our starter.
“I’m not sure I did anything. I was just the guy standing closest to the door,” El-Bashir explained on #RedskinsTalk. “I’m here a lot during the time when players are coming off the field and Kirk Cousins does this a lot.
“I’ve seen him do this to [Redskins GM] Scot McCloughan. ‘Are you not entertained? Did you like that?’ — things of that nature. I didn’t take it personally. I don’t think he was directing that at me, although I will admit I have been a little on him the past couple of weeks as he has struggled a bit.
“I got a good laugh and I’m pretty sure my response was, ‘Yeah, I did like that. That was a pretty good win,’ and he just walked off.”
Yes, Kirk we liked that! Hail To The Redskins!
