Could you imagine creating a museum that tells the history of baseball and the all-time hits leader; Pete Rose, the all-time home run leader; Barry Bonds, and the all-time Cy Young leader; Roger Clemens were ALL not mentioned in the history? The mission of the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame is to preserve history. They have failed their mission and they have failed the game of baseball.

How it Works

On Tuesday, the Hall announced its 2022 class. (Last year, they didn’t elect anyone.) To be on the ballot, a player had to spend at least 10 seasons in the majors and have been retired for five years. A player needs 75% of votes from the eligible BBWAA* (Baseball Writers’ Association of America). A player can only remain on the ballot for a maximum of 10 annual voting cycles. This years’ ballot had 13 first timers and 17 previously nominated candidates.

Here’s where it starts to get fixed. In July of 2014, they (cough, strategically, cough) changed the rules for induction (to hurt specific players). If a player was receiving at least five percent of the vote, they could stay on the ballot of up to 15-years to reach the 75% needed to be elected to the Hall. They changed from 15-years to only 10-years so that it would keep specific players out. And these bums think PED’s are cheating the game? Way to cheat the game by changing the rules, BBWAA*! Not voting in Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and Curt Schilling on their final year of eligibility is beyond forgivable.

BBWAA*

These BBWAA* are mostly outdated, out of touch writers. To be an eligible writer you must write for a daily newspaper, magazine or ‘qualifying’ website. Two of those sources are basically non-existent. My Dad is the only person I know who still gets the daily paper and if it actually gets delivered, it is a sad, thin waste of generic paper.

All of these writers that get a vote and think they are historians preserving the game are the exact same writers who profited off of the steroid era. Baseball was drowning. However, the long ball saved the sport. ESPN’s Long Gone Summer series on the summer of 1998 covered the great home run chase between Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa. I recommend watching it.

The Home Run King

As I’ve said before, I don’t care about PED’s! You could give me all of the shots, creams, deer antler spray and any other form of PED and I still could never go yard in a major league ballpark. To be able to hit a round ball, with a round bat and hit it square while going 90+ mph in different directions takes pure God given talent. PED’s cannot make talent or skill. And let me remind you, the Mitchell report that came out basically ratted on everyone and very few players were hitting dingers. To rephrase it, PED’s don’t equal moon shots.

Barry Bonds NEVER tested positive for PED’s, he was never suspended by MLB and he remains innocent. The only thing Barry has ever been guilty of is being the son of another great baseball player who was left out of the Hall. According to the CDC, the only thing Barry Bonds has ever tested positive for is being born with DNA that the baseball gods dreamed of. Barry Bonds was a Hall of Famer long before the steroid era. Bonds should be in Cooperstown on defense alone. In Bonds’ 22-year career, Bonds played OF in 2,874 games and hit in 2,986 games.

The BBWAA* are mostly fragile writers and are the definition of hypocrisy. They want to keep the Hall “clean” but they only voted David Ortiz in as a first rounder even though it was well documented that he failed a PED test?!?! During Ortiz’s 20-year career, Ortiz was a designated hitter in 2,028 games while playing first base in only 278 games. In other words, compared to Barry Bonds stats, the BBWAA* is a bleeeeping joke!

Hall of Shame

The BBWAA* has proven over and over that journalist are not what they used to be. The writers, as a whole, have created an institution that is incapable of using any rational logic to uphold the mission of the Hall of Fame. Their inability to tell the history of baseball has led to a loss of respecting the scribe. The 33% of BBWAA* who didn’t vote for Barry Bonds in the Hall of Fame on his final year of eligibility should be banned from the game and as a result be inducted into the Hall of Shame.

I would love to see a new Hall created by the players and coaches. A Hall where the BBWAA* will no longer hold any power or votes to the game and to the history of baseball. Until then, the BBWAA* is the biggest cheater in Cooperstown.

Love this honesty. Let’s figure out a better way to select these players and get rid of these ridiculous writers
