It’s been 125 days and WNBA star, Brittany Griner is still being detained in Russia. Joe Biden and his administration have dropped the ball over and over again while Griner remains a war-pawn. It’s pride month and this administration can’t even schedule a phone call correctly! Now we know, they are doing NOTHING to Free Brittany!
Every other U.S. administration would have gotten Griner home by now. No other administration would let a gay, black, American, female be a hostage in a country that hates everyone who is not a white, male Russian. The so-called “negotiations” are clear indicators that Biden has zero power in foreign affairs and zero concern for Griner. It’s sad, disgusting and downright disrespectful.
Cherelle Griner, wife to Griner hasn’t been able to speak to Brittany at all! A phone call was scheduled on Saturday, the couple’s fourth anniversary, through the U.S. Embassy in Russia. However, the call never happened because the embassy was not staffed over the weekend. The long-awaited phone call was another disappointment for the Griner’s. Griner’s lawyers told Cherelle on Monday that Brittney tried to call 11 times over several hours. Each time the call went unanswered. Turns out, there was no one staffed at the Embassy on Saturday to connect the call to Cherelle in Phoenix.
Cherelle said in an interview “I was distraught. I was hurt. I was done, fed up, I’m pretty sure I texted BG’s agent and was like: ‘I don’t want to talk to anybody. It’s going to take me a minute to get my emotions together and just tell everybody I’m unavailable right now. Because it just knocked me out. I wasn’t well, I’m still not well.”
This phone call had been scheduled for over two weeks and this administration has said this case is a top priority. Yet, they can’t even schedule a damn phone call correctly! If this is how they handle priority situations, then it’s no surprise to see how they have ruined this country.
Cherelle also said “I find it unacceptable and I have zero trust in our government right now. If I can’t trust you to catch a Saturday call outside of business hours, how can I trust you to actually be negotiating on my wife’s behalf to come home? Because that’s a much bigger ask than to catch a Saturday call.’‘
The U.S. government has apologized to Cherelle for their scheduling error. Joe Biden has still made zero effort to talk to or to meet with Cherelle. If the President has time to eat ice cream cones and fall off bikes in public, he should be making time to free Brittany!
Griner has been detained in Russia since February 17th after authorities said her bag contained cannabis oil. BG42 (Griner’s initials and jersey number) has been placed on all 12 WNBA courts in an effort to keep her return home at the forefront of conversation.
