It’s a Love Story

Taylor Swift Love Story (Photo from Google Images)

Jared (the redneck from Roanoke, VA) thought the Taylor Swift coverage would end with the Super Bowl, but this love story isn’t going anywhere. In a game that was four hours and 18 minutes (that’s a total of 15,480 seconds). Swift only appeared for around 55 seconds! 55 SECONDS from the moment the game kicked off to the overtime touchdown.

Change

One thing that needs to change that we all (including Redneck Jared and Swifties) can agree on is that Monday after the Super Bowl needs to be a national holiday. I’m pretty sure that platform alone could win an election and even unite a country. According to Google, over 16 million U.S. employees planned to miss work on Monday after the Super Bowl between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs. Around 10 million of those workers request the day off in advance, and over 6 million planned to skip but didn’t requested a formal absence.

This year was the most watched Super Bowl in history with 123.4 million viewers. (Last year there were 115.1 viewers.) Two words; Taylor Swift. Like it or not, Taylor Swift is perhaps the most famous person on the planet. There’s no way Taylor’s Version didn’t drive up the viewership.

Over/Under

Another effect on viewership ratings is sports betting. More than $185.6 million was bet on Super Bowl LVIII (58). That’s $6 million from 2023. The odds of the game going into overtime at ESPN BET were 11-1. Caesars Sportsbook said the odds-on betting on the game going into overtime produced the biggest loss for them than any of the thousands of other prop bets they offered.

The Chiefs being the underdogs and winning in a wild overtime win not only exposed 49er’s head coach, Kyle Shanahan’s lack of understanding the new overtime rules, it also cost sportsbooks.
The score was 13-10 going into the fourth quarter and the 49er’s dominated the entire game. BET MGM said most betters had the Chiefs winning with the over, even though the Niners were the favorite.

If you bet the under, you were feeling good about your bet. But with 15 points scored in the fourth quarter to tie, it forced the game to overtime. A final score 22-25 (47 total points) if you bet the Chiefs and the under at 47.5 you won. If your betting site was 47 total points it was a push and no one wins. If you bet the Chiefs and the over at 46.5 points: winner, winner chicken dinner!

You’re on Your Own, Kid

I mean, how can you not like a supportive girlfriend who flew across the world to support her boyfriend in the Super Bowl? And just when you thought Taylor couldn’t get any cooler, the moment she saw herself on the jumbotron, she chugged her drink with her friend. Jared, like how can you not say to yourself, ‘alright, she’s kind of cool now’? And if you are still a Taylor Swift hater, then you’re on your own, kid.

End Game

This was the second time a Super Bowl went to overtime. Thanks to San Francisco kicker, Jake Moody, who had an extra point blocked in the fourth quarter that kept it a three-point game. Overtime rules changed (now both teams get a possession vs first TD scored) and it didn’t seem like San Francisco knew the rule change. You never want the ball first IF both teams get a position. This was another huge decision that ended the chances of the Niners winning.

I didn’t know what to expect from this game. I just know you should never bet against Patrick Mahomes. Add in the Taylor Swift story and this is a script Hollywood can’t even write. If Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are still together next year, I’m betting on the Kansas City Chiefs to three-peat!

Lover

Valentine’s Day is a day of celebrating love! Thank you for showing me love for the past 14 years. Happy 14th Anniversary to my blog! Who would have thought that a girl who somehow fractured/jammed/chipped and tore all the ligaments in her pinky while playing bleeeeping Golden Tee could write about sports? It’s safe to say I will never play Golden Tee ever again, but luckily for you, I can still type with nine fingers. Thank you to all the readers, even if it’s just my twin, my parents, Beka, and Bubbie. In the words of Clay Travis, if you like a post, tell a friend. If you hate a post, please, tell everyone!

And a very special Happy 40th Birthday to my best friend, Liz!
