There are only 15 teams in college football who remain undefeated. I feel like I’m living a dream because both of my teams are still undefeated. I love Saturdays Down South! Coastal Carolina University is 6-0 and the University of Tennessee is 5-0. Both teams are going into a big week.

The Vols smoked the Tigers at LSU with a 27-point win. It was the Vols largest win against an AP-ranked team in the regular season since 1995. And it happened in one of the toughest places to play, Death Valley. But, now, it’s Bama week and ESPN’s College GameDay is back in Knoxville for the second time this year. The Vols haven’t won against the Crimson Tide since 2006. The last time both the Vols and Bama were undefeated going into the Bama game was 1998. That was also the year the Vols won their last National Championship. Let’s run it back.

The Third Saturday in October
The first time the Volunteers and the Crimson Tide played was on Thanksgiving Day in 1901. Due to darkness and no stadium lights, the refs called the game. It ended in a 6-6 tie. Since 1914, the rivalry game has been played on the Third Saturday of October. In the 105 meetings, the Tide are winning the rivalry 58-38-7.

If you are new to the SEC or college football, this rivalry runs deep. Alabama has played no opponent more often than Tennessee. In the SEC, the Tide has won more games, lost more games, played more games, tied more games, played more consecutive games against Tennessee than any other opponent. Just imagine if your team had to play Alabama EVERY year! This is not just another football game, this is the Third Saturday in October! #3 Alabama vs. #6 Tennessee. Kickoff is at 3:30 on CBS.

Win or lose, this Saturday, in Neyland stadium is going to be wild. Get your cigars ready!

Contenders
With a win over Bama or Georgia, the University of Tennessee are legit College Football Playoff contenders. But with wins over both, they are a lock. Deep breaths, there’s still A LOT of football left to play. The difference is that after two decades of hitting a new rock bottom, Rocky Top is finally in good hands and we are not going anywhere!

House Divided
Old Dominion University officially joined the Sun Belt Conference this summer. The St.Clair household quickly became a house divided. The Monarchs are 2-3 this season and have already had won their “Super Bowl” by beating Virginia Tech to start their season. They almost owned the state and the ACC, but they lost to UVA on the road 14-16.

This game is personal to me because it hits close to home. My parents are ODU Alumni and I am a proud CCU alumna. My Dad likes to say I chose Myrtle Beach over Virginia Beach and it’s not often he is 100% correct. Being a Chanticleer instead of a Monarch is the best decision I ever made. I am beyond grateful my parents supported my own journey and picked up the tab on the best five years of my life.

I wasn’t the only one who picked MB over VAB. CCU RB, CJ Beasley, left his hometown of Norfolk, VA to play on the teal Surf Turf. The “Myrtle Hurdle” for the game winning touchdown might be a top 10 play of the year in college football.

On Saturday, Coastal will host ODU on Homecoming. This will be the second time the two schools have met at the line of scrimmage. (We don’t need to talk about the first game in 2012, it’s in the past.) This time around, Coastal has their own “Heinicke” only it’s pronounced “Grayson bleeping McCall”.

The Real McCall
Grayson McCall is 24-2 overall as a starter the last three years. In 28 games, he has completed 71.0 percent of his passes for 6,387 yards and 65 touchdowns. He has thrown two touchdowns or more in 21 games in his CCU career and has passed for at least one touchdown in 17-straight games, a new CCU record.

His 195.3 career passing efficiency rating is first all-time in NCAA FBS career record books. McCall set a new NCAA Division I FBS record in passing efficiency rating at 207.6 last season in 2021, eclipsing the previous two records set by Alabama’s Mac Jones (203.1) in 2020 and LSU’s Joe Burrow (202.0) in 2019. Coastal is the only team with a current streak of three-straight 6-0 starts in college football. Who doesn’t love Saturdays Down South? Kickoff is at noon. #Chants up!
