Just An Old Sweet Song

Cue Ray Charles.

Georgia, Georgia, the whole day through. Anyone else see the Masters commercials and get all the feels about Just an old sweet song? Personally, I don’t know how you hear a version of Georgia on My Mind or see images of Augusta National without catching feelings. I said Georgia! It’s not April when the Azaleas bloom just in time for golf’s most prestigious tournament, but not even Covid-19 or those election counters could out trump the importance of the Masters. O I said Georgia!

As college football is taking a hard hit this Saturday due to contact tracing, a lot of great games have been postponed. The silver lining is that we now have more time to watch the world’s greatest golfers play the most revered course and its A song, a song of you; A fall Masters.

Two of the most iconic golfers; Jack Nicklaus (80-years old and 6-time Masters winner with the most Masters wins) and Gary Player (85-years old and 3-time Masters winner) teed-off at the break of dawn surrounded by fog. Comes as sweet and clear as moonlight through the pines. It was as if the legend, Arnold Palmer, (4-time Masters winner) was watching and protecting his best friends from above. Other arms reach out to me. With the fog pushed away and the rain paused, Arnie made sure the world of golf and Other eyes smile tenderly as his buddies continued the Honorary Starter tradition for the 84th Masters tournament.

But still in peaceful dreams I see. Tiger Woods gave the world of golf the best comeback story at last years Masters. When most of the world wrote Tiger off as still having the Tiger Effect on the game of golf, the rest of us know The road, woo the road leads back to you, Tiger.

The St.Clair family bet is also a tradition unlike any other. My dad may have seven holes-in-one in his amateur golf career, but he continues to sing I said Georgia, no peace, no peace I find as he picks the wrong players to root for on Sunday. Somehow, in a random draw, Phil Michelson ending up as my last pick. (I tried to give him back.) If you read my other golf blogs, you know picking on greasy Phil is Just (like) an old sweet song for me. Basically, I just take it as a loss when he misses the cut before he even tees off.

I always have Dustin Johnson on my team. Always. That’s the only rule in St.Clair family golf bets. And I feel pretty good knowing that I also have Tiger on my team. That keeps you Georgia on my mind. Tiger has five Masters wins and 25 years of experience playing at Augusta National. Other arms reach out to me as DJ is still waiting to put on the most coveted green jacket. And when that day comes, Other eyes (will) smile tenderly. For DJ, no fans in the galleries, is where he thrives. But still in peaceful dreams I see. Tiger becomes Tiger from the roar of the crowd and The road, woo the road leads back to you, the fans. I SAID GEORGIA!

The first round started with a rain delay No peace, no peace I find for all of those who took time off of work to watch. And three hours later, Just (like) that old, sweet song, a rainbow appeared and play resumed That keeps you Georgia on my mind.

I said Georgia, Georgia, my sweet Georgia

Just that old sweet song

That keeps you Georgia on my mind
